Walker Corporation’s $40m AXIS Homemaker Centre recently celebrated Spotlight’s Grand Opening on Monday 3rd November with Spotlight being the first of many store openings. This exciting, 20,000sqm integrated precinct combines large homemaker retail tenancies, premium quality office space and food outlets including a café and family restaurant. One Health & Fitness Health Club, Betta Electrical, Bendigo Bank and Souvlakihut will open this year plus a range of bedding, outdoor/ lifestyle and other takeaway food stores will join AXIS in 2009.Simonds Homes has also secured 700sqm of premium, first floor commercial office space. The site has already generated over 450 jobs during construction and is expected to generate over 300 jobs for retail staff when complete. Built by Hacer Group a local Melbourne builder on about 3 hectares of land located just 25 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, at the junction of McDonald and Plenty Roads, AXIS services a population of over 108,000 people within a 5km radius. At the gateway to Melbourne’s booming northern suburbs AXIS provides retailers and commercial businesses alike with high profile exposure and street frontage onto one of north Melbourne’s busiest intersections with over 10,000,000 vehicles passing the site per annum. “Spotlight, Australia’s largest chain of fabric and home interiors superstores is excited to open a brand new store for the community in South Morang. This growing community is increasing by double the Victorian average and is a great fit for Spotlight’s broad retail offer which will assist many new and existing families as they establish their homes in the region. At Spotlight, community is the heart of our business; we want our customers to enjoy the best range, best value for money in the best retail environment and we are confident the new Spotlight South Morang will deliver this. Many local residents will already be familiar with our catalogue and website and we are delighted to be able to bring the very latest Spotlight store to their neighbourhood,” said Mr Steven Carey, Spotlight General Manager. The centre incorporates over 350 car spaces, providing permeable traffic flow ensuring total customer convenience and greater accessibility to all stores. “AXIS offers a prime opportunity for homemaker retailers to capitalise on rapid population in a high exposure destination. Opportunities like this do not come along every day in terms of a large and growing customer base, major corner position with exceptionally high traffic flow, ample customer parking, flexibility in tenancy size and impressive landscape design.“ said a Walker Corporation spokesperson. A study conducted by DEEP Research indicates that total bulky goods spending is expected to increase on average by 7.6% per annum to 2015 and reach a staggering $681.9 million in 2014 /15. Population growth in the South Morang area from 2001 to 2005 averaged 3.2% per annum, triple the Melbourne average. The local population is forecast to grow to 131,135 by June 2010, and then to 156,380 by June 2015. This represents impressive, ongoing growth of 3.5% to 2010 and 3.6% from 2010 to 2015. With over 7,000 new residential lots approved for development in the direct catchment area, higher levels of home purchasers than the Melbourne average and over 108,000 people estimated to be living within 5km of the centre, AXIS is well placed to capitalise on this future growth and associated retail spend. |
